Avec les différentes étapes de la vie, les femmes sont nombreuses à faire de l’acné hormonale à l’âge adulte. Cycle menstruel, grossesse, ménopause sont effectivement des périodes qui favorisent l’activité des glandes sébacées. Bien que moins sujets, les hommes aussi peuvent souffrir d’acné passer l'adolescence. Également appelé “acné adulte”, l’acné hormonale est tout simplement de l’acné généré par la fluctuation d’hormones. Son origine est essentiellement inflammatoire et ressemble de près à l’acné juvénile. Cependant, on distingue bien l’acné de l’adolescence de l’acné que l’on peut avoir à l’âge adulte. Bien que les deux soient liés à une surproduction de sébum, l’acné hormonale se déclenche sur des périodes avec une poussée d’hormones importante alors que l’acné intervenant durant la puberté peut durer tout au long de l’adolescence. De plus, l’acné hormonale à tendance à se manifester principalement sur la mâchoire et le menton.
Alors quelles sont les hormones responsables de l’acné hormonale et quelles sont les causes de ces dérèglements ?
Les femmes sont généralement plus touchées que les hommes par l’acné hormonale du fait de leurs cycles menstruels. En effet, en plus de la testostérone (bien qu’en faible quantité par rapport aux hommes), le corps féminin produit de la progestérone. Cependant, l’action de cette hormone sur l’acné hormonale est souvent équilibrée avec l’oestrogène. Cette dernière a un effet bénéfique sur la surproduction de sébum, favorise l’hydratation cutanée et contribue à baisser le taux de testostérone. Ainsi, lorsque le taux d’oestrogène est le plus important, l’acné hormonal à tendance à disparaître.
Située principalement sur la partie basse du visage, sur le contour de la mâchoire et le menton, l’acné hormonale se manifeste par une surproduction de sébum obstruant ainsi les pores de la peau. Elle peut prendre différentes formes selon la réaction de l’épiderme :
Une des premières choses à faire pour venir à bout de son acné hormonale est d’adopter une alimentation équilibrée. On essaie de limiter au maximum les aliments gras et riches en lactose qui favorisent la production de sébum. On privilégie des aliments présentant des actions antioxydantes, antibactériennes ou encore anti inflammatoires. L’hydratation joue également un rôle important pour un bon équilibre cutané et donc pour lutter contre l’acné hormonal. Il est recommandé de boire au minimum 1,5L d’eau par jour pour un adulte et d’utiliser des cosmétiques hydratants adaptés à son type de peau. Un geste beauté qui peut s’avérer très utile en cas d’acné hormonale : le gommage. Il permet de débarrasser l’épiderme des cellules mortes accumulées en surface et de l’excès de sébum pouvant provoquer l’apparition de lésions. Enfin, apprendre à se détendre et ainsi à diminuer les sources de stress est bénéfique pour se débarrasser de l’acné hormonale.
